Day Two

Day 2 of project 'less of me' is at an end. Breakfast - Porridge, Lunch, we were out in Fremantle so I had stirfried vegetables and tofu with rice, I only ate about a cup of the rice, successfully leaving half behind. For dinner I made an omlette with leek and pumpkin + low fat yogurt for desert. I've had two cans of diet coke and will probably try some tea in a little while.

Being out in Fremantle was tough, I didn't eat donuts in the markets, onion rings at Jus Burgers, Beer at the Norfolk, Hot Chocolate at San Churros, Pad Thai at the resteraunt where we had lunch, corn on the cob or a hot dog. - but I really wanted to.

On the way home I bought a 100 litre plastic container from Bunnnings, at home I attacked my wardrobe, placing all the expensive designer label clothes that don't fit me in the box, it's now on the top shelf and you can actually find stuff in the wardrobe that fits.

I also filled three giant black plastic bags with clothers (not designer label) for the Good Sammys or the swapmeet.

Exercise: well cleaning the wardrobe took some energy, we walked around Freo for about an hour and at the car park we took the stairs (level 4).

It's not the first time

By no way is this the first time I have decided to go on a diet, and try to lose weight. Who knows how many times this journey has begun.

It often begins on Saturdays, when I go to the supermarket and vow to buy only healthy food. The truth is I only ever by healthy food in the supermarket, it's the unhealthy food I buy late at night on the way home from work that contributes to weight gain.

The reasons for weight gain are simple, portion size, eating unhealthy take away food, work / life balance, eating too late at night, never doing any exercise, there are no mysteries here. The challenge for me is to make a long term change, a change of behaviours, my behaviour and those who are close to me.

So over the last two weeks I've realised my clothes were getting tighter and tighter. Now it's time to come clean. I dragged the scales out and cleaned the dust of them, I am heavier now than I have ever been before - I weight 125 kilograms. Potentially I could weight 124 kilograms - there was a lot of dust. In 1991 I weighed 65 kilograms, my ideal wight is between 70 and 80kgs. So the truth is obvious, one third of me - has to go.

A few years ago, at my younger brothers wedding a friend bet me I couldn't lose more weight than him in six months. I took up the challenge, joined a gym and started following the CRSIO diet plan. It worked well, I lost 20kgs - bringing my weight down to 90kgs. But I soon returned to my old ways and here we are a few years later... and look where we are. That was the last time I saw that friend, I assume he weighs 300kgs and doesn't want to pay up a bootle of good scotch.

So knowing that the CSRIO diet plan worked for me before that's where I have returned to. Today I had low-cal porrige for breakfast, I slept through lunch and turned to the CSIRO diet for dinner. We had stirfired chicken, broccoli, capsicumn and onion. I had a low-fat yogurt for desert. For a snack I ate some nuts, I drank a can of diet coke.

I did some exercise today too, I took the dog for a walk, I figured to start slowly. It was a good choice after a 20 minute walk my feet and back were killing me.

So I started this blog - just for myself - a way of keeping track of my progess, hopefully I'll be committed and there will be more than one entry.

To start me off here are some simple rules to make a big difference.

Eat breakfast, made at home, everyday
No takeaway food - except Subway (and no cookies from Subway)
No coffee (it's not the coffee so much as the caramel-milk mixture that accompanies mine)
Exercise every day
Never Eat after 7pm
No alcohol
No energy drinks
